# Managing Workspaces: Archive vs. Delete
**Archiving Workspaces (Soft Delete):**
**What it is?** Similar to items and locations, you can now "Archive" a Workspace. This makes the Workspace inactive, preventing new data from being added to it or new activities from being initiated within it. However, it **preserves all linked historical data and existing records** associated with that Workspace.
**When to Use:**
* For projects or initiatives that are completed and no longer require active management.
* For Workspaces that were created for temporary purposes and are no longer needed for daily operations.
* When you need to keep a historical record of all activities and items that were part of that Workspace.
**Impact:**
* An archived Workspace will be removed from active lists (e.g., when creating new items, POs, or SOs, or selecting a workspace for new activities).
* **Historical records (such as past POs, SOs, and item transactions) that were linked to the archived Workspace will still display the Workspace name and allow you to view its historical details.** This maintains the context of past activities.
* Any items or locations that existed *within* that Workspace will retain their own status (active or archived) independently. Archiving a Workspace does not automatically archive the items or locations it contained, but it prevents new data from being linked to it.
**How to Archive:** Navigate to the Workspace details page, and you'll find an "Archive" option.
**Viewing Archived Workspaces:** You can typically filter your Workspace lists (e.g., "Show Archived") to view these Workspaces. They might appear greyed out or with a specific status, allowing you to access their historical context.
